Curriculum
Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School Districts uses California state adopted curriculum in English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, history social studies, and science. Please reach out to site principals if you wish to review any of our adopted curriculum or have any questions.
The following is a list of our adopted curriculum and a timeline for upcoming adoptions:
- ELA - Wonders by McGraw Hill (Grades TK-5), Mirrors & Windows by Carnegie Learning (Grades 6-12)
- Mathematics - My Math by McGraw Hill (Grades TK-5), College Preparatory Mathematics by CPM (Grades 6-12)
- History Social Studies - My World by SAAVAS Learning (Grades TK-5), National Geographic History by Cengage (Grades 6-8), Impact History by McGraw Hill (Grades 9-12)
- Science - Elevate Science by SAAVAS Learning (Grades TK-5), HMH Science by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (Grades 6-12)
Process and Timeline for the 2025-26 Math Textbook Adoption
This year, SPJUSD will undergo an adoption process for mathematics. The goal is to ensure that our teachers and students have the curriculum they need to experience strong math teaching and learning across all of our district's classrooms. There are over 20 publishers for grades K-8 and Algebra 1 approved by the state of California, and our district's adoption team will embark on the following steps to guarantee a transparent and rigorous adoption process:

- Early Release Wednesday Professional Learning Session #1: Framework, Number Sense & Literacy in Mathematics
October
- Early Release Wednesday Professional Learning Session #2 and #3: Framework, Standards for Mathematical Practice and Number Sense
November
- Nov. 6- State Board of Education approves curriculum options for districts to choose from
- Nov. 12- Timeline for Math Textbook Adoption Process Presented at School Board Meeting
- Begin Initial Screening of 64 total State-Approved Textbooks to Narrow the focus
December
- Dec. 3 - Early Release Wednesday Professional Learning Session #4: Framework, Big Ideas
- Dec. 15 - Materials on Display for Public Viewing with Feedback Forms
- Dec. 17 - Pilot Committee convenes to complete math adoption toolkit screening tool for the narrowed list of textbooks
January
- Jan. 14- Early Release Wednesday: Pilot Teacher Preparation. Pilot Committee selects 2 options for pilot
February
- Feb. 11- Early Release Wednesday Lesson Design Lab for Pilot Curriculum #1 with pilot teachers
March
- March 4 - March 25: Textbook Option #1 Pilot
April
- April 1- Early Release Wednesday Lesson Design Lab for Pilot Curriculum #2 with pilot teachers
- April 1 - 30 Textbook Option #2 Pilot
May
- May 6- Pilot Teachers convene to complete rubrics after piloting options #1 and #2. Committee reaches consensus on the option to recommend to the Board for final adoption
June
- June 9 - Presentation of Final Curriculum Selection to Board for Adoption
